First Team is excited to announce that with your help, YOVASO (Youth of Virginia Speak Out About Traffic Safety) received enough votes to win a $25,000 grant from State Farm for the After Prom Grand Finale Event!
Each year, the After Prom Grand Finale Event helps keep our community’s kids safe by providing an incentive for them to stay at their school’s after prom to the end. In the past 30 years of the After Prom Grand Finale event, NONE of the participating schools have experienced the tragedy of a drug or alcohol-related driving accident on the night of their prom. This grant ensures the APGFE will go on as planned in 2020.
First Team sponsors the event each year by donating a new vehicle to the event. To qualify to win the car, the student must stay at their after prom until closing (usually 3:00 am) and be present at the After Prom Grand Finale Event. This year, over 5,251 students from 40 high schools across Southwest Virginia made the safe choice to stay until the end of their school’s after-prom party. That is more than 5,251 youth who made it home safely to their families after one of the biggest and most dangerous nights of their young lives. We estimate over 85,000 lives have been saved in the last 31 years.
